Indian Mutton Curry

Mutton curry is a mouth-watering dish for non-veg Indians. This is a generic recipe that is not specifically regional and people from different regions with varied cultures customize the dish by adding flavourings or masala that suits their taste buds and cuisine. Ingredients (For 1 kg mutton)
  • 2 full-size onions (sliced).

  • 2 full-size tomatoes (sliced).

  • 2-3 slitted green chillies.

  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste.

  • ½ cup curd.

  • 4-5 cloves.

  • 2-3 cinnamon.

  • 3-4 cardamom. 

  • 2 bay leaves.

  • ½ tablespoon fennel.

  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds.

  • ½ tablespoon methi seeds.

  • ½ turmeric powder.

  • 1-2 tablespoon red chilli powder.

  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder.

  • 1 tablespoon garam masala powder.   

  • 1 tablespoon cumin powder.

  • 1 tablespoon dried fenugreek powder.

  • 3 tablespoon oil.

  • Salt to taste.

  • 1 tablespoon of ghee.


Buy your meat through online mutton delivery. Wash the mutton well with water and drain completely. Now, marinate it with curd, ginger garlic paste, salt, turmeric and chilli powder. keep it in the refrigerator overnight or at least four to six hours.                     

  1. The first step is to grind all the species including cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaves, fennel, cumin seeds, and methi.

  2. keep the online delivered marinated meat out of the fridge and let it come down to room temperature.

  3. Then heat oil in a pressure cooker and saute cumin seeds for a minute.

  4. Add the ground paste, ginger garlic paste until oil separates.

  5. Now add sliced onions and fry until it turns golden brown.

  6. Then add red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala and saute them well.

  7. Once the masala gets separated add the tomatoes, green chillies and mix all of them well.

  8. Add a little hot water to the pan to form a thick gravy.

  9. Now add the marinated mutton and mix well until the masala gets mixed with mutton pieces.

  10. Cook for 5 - 10 minutes. Check salt and spice as per taste.

  11. Add another cup of lukewarm water and cover the pressure cooker with a lid with medium heat. Wait for 2-3 whistles. Switch off the gas. Wait for steam passes then open the lid you can use 1 tsp ghee to make it tastier.

  12. Serve it hot with rice or roti
